Description
Delicious homemade sesame bagels with a touch of honey and a sprinkle of sesame seeds, perfect for breakfast or a snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon honey (for boiling)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast; let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and poke a hole in the center.
- In a pot, bring water and honey to a boil. Boil each bagel for about 30 seconds on each side, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of each bagel, pressing them down gently.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow the bagels to cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
For extra crunch, toast the sesame seeds before using. Store sliced bagels in the freezer for up to 3 months.
