Description

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the creamed butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
  6. Divide the batter in half and stir cocoa powder into one half until fully incorporated.
  7. Spoon the vanilla and chocolate batters alternately into the prepared pan and swirl gently with a knife.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt in place of some butter. Substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option.
