Description

A colorful and refreshing South Asian dessert drink perfect for summer with layers of vermicelli noodles, basil seeds, and fragrant rose syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup vermicelli noodles
  • 1/4 cup basil seeds (sabja seeds)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup rose syrup
  • 1/4 cup ice cream (optional)
  • Chopped nuts for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak the basil seeds in water for about 30 minutes until they swell. After soaking, drain and set aside.
  2. Cook the vermicelli noodles according to the package instructions. Once cooked, rinse them under cold water to prevent sticking.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the milk and add the sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved, then allow it to cool.
  4. In a tall glass, combine the cooked vermicelli, soaked basil seeds, and drizzle in the rose syrup.
  5. Pour the cooled sweetened milk over the mixture in the glass.
  6. If you’re feeling indulgent, add a scoop of ice cream on top and sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired.
  7. Stir well before serving to mix all the flavors together and enjoy your refreshing Falooda!

Notes

Feel free to swap out the rose syrup for mango or any fruit syrup. For a vegan option, use plant-based milk and omit the ice cream.
