Description

Crispy on the outside and packed with tender, spiced chicken on the inside, these Chicken Curry Puffs are the perfect appetizer or snack, bringing warmth and comfort food flavors with an exciting twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat a splash of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Add the ground chicken to the skillet, sprinkling in the curry powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook until the chicken is browned and fully cooked, stirring occasionally, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry. Use a round cutter to cut out circles, about 4 inches in diameter.
  4. Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each pastry circle, making sure not to overfill.
  5. Fold the pastry over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal, and crimp them with a fork for a decorative touch.
  6. Gently brush the tops of the puffs with the beaten egg to achieve a beautiful, golden finish as they cook.
  7. In a large pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Fry the puffs in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Alternatively, you can bake them in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden. Serve hot!

Notes

These puffs are best served immediately while they’re warm and crispy. Pair them with yogurt dip or tamarind sauce. For a vegetarian option, replace the chicken with sautéed vegetables or lentils.
